We were very good at breaking up.

We did it over untouched dinners, in the backs of taxis, in hotel rooms with our clothes still on the floor. Once at a friend's birthday, while everyone sang in the next room. Twice in the same weekend.

Getting back together was always easier. You would call. I would answer.

Eventually, I realised we had mistaken repetition for destiny.
