walking home with dad at dusk

At dusk the shadows turn blue and the earth still holds its heat as you walk home beside your dad, small and yet strangely certain of yourself. Between the road and the path run the myrtle hedges, their tiny white flowers scattered like pixels, and by morning the magnolias line your own way to school. That safe, beloved neighborhood lives now as fresh blue skies, orange blossom, fig and cedarwood.
